I started Delayed Mail to explore the imprint of the past on the present and share relevant aspects of my research on the history of ideas, capitalism, race, and labor. For the most part, I try to avoid specialists’ language and to keep posts focused on current events with a special emphasis on contemporary power structures. Just like everyone else, however, my interests sometimes take me to weird places. I hope you find those spots as fascinating as I do.

I think we all have the ability and responsibility to better understand the world around us. Maybe it’s because of my years teaching high school, my current work in academia, or my love of a good conversation, but I genuinely believe that people want to know more about their world, to understand one another, and to interact thoughtfully with their respective communities. This site represents my hope to contribute to that larger conversation.

I’d love to post guest submissions, so if you have something you’d like to share that loosely relates to the past in the present, please let me know and I’ll gladly put it up.
